POPS

MY STORY

Pops is a sassy little diva living her best life. A city sausage at heart, Pops has now moved to the Garden of England, in rural Kent, where she lives happily with her doggy husband, Puggy Smalls, her Pomeranian sister, Pomegranate and her two doting humans.

Rescued at around 3 years old from appalling conditions, Pops was a Puppy farm survivor, and against all odds is now a successful dog model, influencer, blogger and therapy dog.

Pops is a passionate spokeswoman for animal welfare and irradiating illegal Puppy farms and we are  happy to tell her rags to riches story to help raise awareness.

 Therapaws

Pops is a retired Therapaws dog. She would visit hospitals and events in London regularly to help people who need a hug.

Therapaws is a programme created by Mayhew Cats and Dogs home, who arrange volunteer visits to hospitals, care homes, hospices and other events, where professional therapy doggies like Pops come along to spread some joy.

 IVDD

Pops first suffered with grade 5 IVDD in 2017 when she was just 5 years old, and again as a senior pooch in 2022. IVDD (Intervertebral disc disease) is a cruel disease that can affect all dogs, but is especially dachshunds due to their long backs. She was paralysed in her back legs on both occasions and underwent major spinal surgery by specialist neurologists who removed her calcified disks in her spine. After a lot of hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, laser therapy, acupuncture and sheer determination, Pops is walking again and fighting fit.

IVDD will always be a risk for Pops, so we do all we can to prevent it happening again. Pops still suffers in the cold with arthritis in her spine due to her condition, but this is remedied with various therapies supplements, fish oils, and keeping her warm and limber in all her fabulous outfits.
